REC Solar powers IKEA solar energy system at Orlando Store

Greentech Lead America: IKEA, a home furnishings
retailer, has commissioned a solar energy system installed atop its store in
Orlando, Florida. This installation represents the 18th completed solar energy
project for IKEA in the United States. The system will provide clean energy for
the store.

IKEA has partnered with REC Solar,
a designer and installer of solar electric systems, to install this solar power
system.

The 967-kW system consists of 4,115 panels and expected to
produce approximately 1,421,500 kWh of clean electricity annually, the
equivalent of reducing 1,080 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2).

This investment by IKEA reinforces the company’s
long-term commitment to sustainability and confidence in photovoltaic technology.
IKEA owns and operates each of its solar PV energy systems atop its buildings.
IKEA has plans to install solar power systems at 21 more locations, making the
eventual U.S. solar presence of IKEA nearly 89 percent with a total generation
of 38 MW.

“We at IKEA believe in the never-ending job of
striving to improve the sustainability of our day-to-day business. The IKEA
coworkers in Orlando are excited to help contribute to this goal with our newly
operational solar energy system. We appreciate the support of the City of
Orlando, Progress Energy and REC Solar, our partners in this project,”
said Julie Mott, IKEA Orlando store manager.

IKEA sets up 1,063 kW solar system at its store in New Jersey

IKEA recently set up a 1,063-kW solar system at its store
in Paramus, New Jersey. This is the 17th completed solar energy project for
IKEA in the United States. The 132,000-square-foot PV array has capacity to
generate approximately 1,359,100 kWh of clean electricity annually.
