REC introduces eco-friendly solar modules

By Greentech Lead Europe: Renewable Energy Corporation
(REC), Europe’s largest solar module producer, has launched the REC Peak Energy
Eco a new solar module produced with lead-free soldering.

Lead, at certain exposure levels, is a poisonous
substance to animals as well as for human beings. It damages the nervous system and
causes brain disorders. Excessive lead also causes blood disorders in mammals.
Like the element mercury, another heavy metal, lead is a neurotoxin that
accumulates both in soft tissues and the bones.

An innovative step in manufacturing has enabled REC to
remove all the lead normally required in the soldering process, which has
significantly cut the lead content in the module. The result is an even more
environmentally-friendly product with the same high output performance and
reliability as other REC modules.

“We are seeing that an increasing number of our
customers and regulators require information about the environmental footprint
of solar solutions. The development of the REC Peak Energy Eco module
demonstrates REC’s commitment to developing high-performing technologies that
are safe and sustainable throughout the lifecycle,” said Luc Grare, senior
vice president, Sales and Marketing, Cells and Modules, REC.

The REC Peak Energy Eco module delivers more energy per
watt peak like other modules in the REC Peak Energy Series. REC Peak Energy Eco
module has a robust and durable design, is easy to install, and is readily
available. REC modules also have the lightest carbon footprint for
multicrystalline modules and offers an energy payback time of one year.

REC’s proprietary Fluidized Bed Reactor (FBR)
process, which uses 90 percent less energy to produce silicon than competing
technologies help reduce the energy costs. All of these features will help this
new module achieve the environmental objectives of homeowners, businesses and
governments looking to reduce their carbon footprint and save on their energy
costs.

REC introduces certification program for solar installers

Recently, REC introduced a certification program for
solar installers including warranty extension and service fees for those who
comply. REC said more than 100 installers in six countries are already
certified as REC Solar Professionals. REC developed the program together with
installers. This qualification offers installers high-level training and gives
them access to a range of benefits.
