PSEG Solar Source announced that it will secure a 12.9 megawatt solar energy facility from juwi solar (JSI) located near Waldorf, MD.

The facility, known as PSEG Waldorf Solar Energy Center was initially developed by JSI, on a 20-year power purchase agreement with Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO).

The solar facility’s purchase price was not revealed yet.

The plant will consist of approximately 40,000, 315-watt, solar panels.

The construction of the plant will begin in early 2015 and by the mid of 2015 the facility is expected to commence solar energy production.

JSI will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction works of the project and will operate the project for PSEG Solar Source upon completion.

PSEG’s solar portfolio will reach 123MW with the new acquisition, with 11 solar projects now in its portfolio.

In July, PSEG Solar Source has completed acquisition of another 13 MW DC solar facility from juwi for $22 million.

Last week, the installation of the 10,000th solar photovoltaic (PV) system on Long Island was done at Huntington as part of the State’s partnership with PSEG Long Island under the PowerUp Long Island and NY-Sun initiatives.

New York State’s energy leaders and local leaders joined PSEG Long Island, business and solar industry representatives to celebrate the installation of the 7,200 watt PV system, which is expected to produce 8,817 kilowatt hours (kWh) annually, offsetting approximately 95 percent of the homeowner’s annual electricity expense.
