IKEA completes the installation of 912-kW solar energy system at Dallas-Area Store in Frisco

Greentech Lead America: IKEA, a home furnishings
retailer, has installed a 912-kW solar energy system at its Dallas-area store
in Frisco, Texas. This is the 30th completed solar project for IKEA in the
U.S.

The solar system consists of 3,780 panels, which will
produce approximately 1,336,300 kWh of clean electricity annually, the
equivalent of reducing 1,016 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2).

REC Solar developed, designed and installed the Frisco
store’s customized solar power system.

IKEA has plans to install 9 more solar systems in
the U.S., making the eventual U.S. solar presence of IKEA nearly 89 percent
with a total generation of 38 MW. IKEA owns and operates each of its solar PV
energy systems atop its buildings.

IKEA has allocated 590 million euro to invest in
renewable energy globally, focusing on solar and wind during the coming three
years. More than 250,000 solar panels have been installed on IKEA stores and
buildings across the world. The company also owns and/or operates approximately
110 wind turbines in Europe.

“IKEA has a never-ending job where most things still
remain to be done that encourages us always to ask ourselves how we can improve
what we do today for a better tomorrow. We appreciate the support of the City
of Frisco, Oncor and REC Solar, our partners in this project,” said Robby
Wierman, IKEA Frisco store manager.

IKEA commissions roof top solar energy system at Atlanta store

Recently, IKEA plugged-in the solar energy system
installed at its store in Atlanta, Georgia. The 1,034.9-kW system consists of
4,312 solar panels. The system is expected to produce approximately 1,416,502
kWh of clean electricity annually, the equivalent of reducing 977 tons of
carbon dioxide (CO2).
