A 100-megawatt solar power plant developed by Azure Power was officially inaugurated at Nandia Kalan village in Rajasthan on Saturday.

Chief minister Vasundhara Raje inaugurated the project that can meet power requirements of 30 villages in the vicinity.

The project is the second such power plant in Rajasthan under the Make in India mission.

Raje said the state government had signed MoUs for generation of 34,000 MWh of solar power and was presently going to set up a solar grid to harness this potential.

The Nandia Kalan project built under National Solar Mission-II has seen tariff for power being brought down by 70 per cent from Rs 17.91 per unit in 2009 to Rs 5.45 per unit.

In February Azure opened a solar power plant in Uttar Pradesh, the first such project in the state.

The project is one of the facilities to come up as part of 500 megawatts of solar power capacity proposed to be added by 2017 across the state.

The plant laid out on 56 acres in Karharakala in Mahoba is expected to provide electricity to 10,000 households.

Earlier this month, Azure had also commissioned a 10-megawatt solar power plant at Durg in Chhattisgarh.

According to a statement issued by Azure, the company won the project under the Chhattisgarh Solar Policy 2012-2017 and was to supply power to Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CPDCL), for 25 years.
