Chinese photovoltaic module manufacturer Trina Solar has signed a PV module-supply agreement with Japanese engineering company Toyo Engineering.

In accordance with the agreement, Trina Solar will supply about 446,000 units of its TSM-260PC05A high efficiency modules to Toyo for building 116 MW capacity.

The modules are to be deployed at the largest solar power project in Japan — a 231-megawatt facility coming up in Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture.

Setouchi Future Creations, a special purpose company, is managing the project.

Toyo Engineering is building the solar photovoltaic power plant on 260 hectares provided by the city in the now inoperational Kinkai salt field.

The project is expected to go into commercial operations in the second quarter of 2019.

“This sizeable order marks another milestone for Trina Solar in this market. Our modules were selected on the basis of very stringent criteria, Zhiguo Zhu, the COO and president of module business, Trina Solar, said.

“We believe demand for clean and sustainable energy in Japan will continue to increase. Solar energy will play a key role in the growing diversification of the country’s energy mix. Japan is a key market for us where we expect to further deepen our penetration,” Zhiguo added.
