Telvent provides weather solutions to MTEMC to maximize smart grid performance

By Greentech Lead America: Telvent, a real-time IT
solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced that its
weather technology has been selected by Middle Tennessee Electric Membership
Corporation (MTEMC) to help maximize the utility’s ability to respond to
outages efficiently and cost-effectively.

Telvent’s innovative Smart Grid
Solutions technologies enable location-specific weather data to
improve outage management by quickly identifying when and where to assemble
crews for faster power restoration and improved customer satisfaction.

MTEMC has replaced its manual system for identifying
outages and dispatching crews with Telvent’s automated advanced outage
management system, Responder, last year. MTEMC also selected Telvent’s weather
technology to maximize Responder’s outage management capabilities.

“Integrating our industry-leading weather solutions into
existing outage management solutions provides software essential to partners
like MTEMC to help them achieve their goals of efficiently and effectively
responding to outages and providing high quality service to their membership,”
said Ignacio Gonzalez, Telvent’s chairman and CEO.

Telvent’s weather forecasts along with real-time
lightning strike data and storm track projections will be fully integrated into
the Responder system, enabling supervisors to retrieve accurate weather and
outage information simultaneously, as well as to more accurately predict when
and where outages may occur and dispatch crews in order to restore power more
quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively.

MTEMC has been using Telvent’s MxVision WeatherSentry
solution since 2006. The seamless integration of real-time, location-specific
weather data into Telvent’s advanced automated outage management system will
allow MTEMC to further enhance its Smart Grid performance to efficiently meet
the needs of its members’ expanding energy demands.

IBM and Telvent selected by Canadian electricity distributor
for Smart Grid project

Recently, IBM and its business partner Telvent
selected by Hydro One, a distributor of electricity in Canada, for a new smart
grid project. The companies will run simulations and tests to determine the
smart grid technologies that have the potential to improve power efficiency and
reliability.
