Sierra Wireless awarded for supplementing smart grid technology

Sierra Wireless (SWIR) has been recognized by this year’s Fierce Innovation Award for its outstanding contribution in Smart Grid Communications category, reports Market Watch.

Fierce Innovation Award, Energy Edition is a unique industry award program sponsored by the publishers of FierceEnergy and FierceSmartGrid.

The exclusive panel of judges included: Kevin Dasso, director, Technology and Information Strategy, Pacific Gas and Electric Company; Lisa Davidson, director, Customer Programs, San Diego Gas & Electric; Conrad Eustis, director, Retail Technology Strategy, Portland General Electric; Robert B. They evaluated on the basis of technology innovation, financial impact, market validation, ability to integrate into network environments, and end-user customer experience.

Sierra Wireless was honored for its innovative Integrated M2M Solution for Smart Grid Communications and end-to-end M2M solution for OEMs building smart meters.

Sierra Wireless AirPrime WP Series Embedded Modules are used to build Smart Grid applications with an application processor and Legato, the open source embedded platform, integrated with AirVantage M2M Cloud for upgrading devices and enabling new services.

Utilities and OEMs can use this M2M Solution for Smart Grid Communication as a hub to collect data from various services for smart meters. It can also support customer-facing applications for monitoring energy usage as well as integrating home appliances.

Moreover, this integrated solution allows OEMs and service providers to focus their resources on developing innovative applications and services. Nowadays, OEMs come with long-term flexibility, which can change hardware components and vendors without much revamping of the solution.
