Freescale and Melange demo automated energy meter reading (AMR) technology

Greentech Lead India: Freescale Semiconductor, a provider
in embedded processing solutions, and Melange Systems, a wireless networking
company, have demonstrated an Automated Energy Meter Reading (AMR) Technology
at Freescale office in Bengaluru.

The new technology addresses the challenges of efficient
energy distribution and management by offering technologies that utilize
wireless sensor networks, software, and computing to monitor and read energy
usage levels and pattern or even spot if there are problems or blackouts in the
network.

Based on Zigbee technology meters can be remotely
controlled. They have interoperability capabilities. The products come with
different features and allow consumers to choose as per their needs. Such
products will improve efficiency, service reliability and quality of supply
besides arresting pilferage by meter tamper and unauthorized tapping.

Both the companies have been working closely for the last
few years for various wireless applications for products tailored specifically
for the Indian market.

“We are happy to work with Melange Systems as the team
has a great combination of expertise and understanding of the local
requirements,” said Vivek Tyagi, country sales director, Freescale
Semiconductor India.

The major demand for low power wireless is coming from
automated meter reading application as part of RAPDRP program and India’s smart
grid market is expected to grow rapidly. Both companies are looking to take the
full advantage of the market.

“It is a great opportunity to work with Freescale
Semiconductor. The team has been extremely supportive and we look forward to a
long and fruitful relationship,” said Narain Attili, founder and CEO of Melange
Systems.
