Renewable energy major Orsted has appointed Rasmus Errboe as the new Group President and CEO, effective 1 February 2025.

Rasmus Errboe will succeed Mads Nipper, who has led the company since January 2021. The decision comes as the renewable energy industry faces significant challenges, including supply chain disruptions, rising interest rates, and regulatory shifts. The Orsted Board of Directors, led by Chair Lene Skole, has determined that a leadership transition is necessary to navigate these complexities and drive the company forward.

Rasmus Errboe, currently serving as Deputy CEO and Chief Commercial Officer, has been with Orsted since 2012.

Over the years, Rasmus Errboe has played a key role in shaping the company’s strategic direction, previously holding positions such as Regional Head of Europe, CFO for the global offshore business, and Head of the Group M&A department.

His extensive experience includes overseeing Orsted’s IPO in 2016 and managing the divestment of the company’s oil and gas business in 2017. With a Master of Law from Copenhagen University and an MBA from the University of San Diego, Errboe brings both legal and financial expertise to his new role.

Lene Skole expressed confidence in Errboe’s leadership, highlighting his industry knowledge and strong track record within the company. She emphasized that his appointment aligns with Orsted’s commitment to overcoming current industry headwinds and maintaining its position as a leader in offshore wind energy.

Rasmus Errboe acknowledged the challenges ahead but reaffirmed Orsted’s dedication to advancing the green transition and delivering value to customers, shareholders, and stakeholders.

Mads Nipper, reflecting on his tenure, has expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead Orsted through a transformative period. Under his leadership, the company expanded its installed renewable capacity from 11.3 GW in 2021 to 18.2 GW in 2025. He praised the collective efforts of his colleagues and extended his best wishes to Errboe and the executive team.

Orsted remains focused on its vision of a world powered entirely by green energy. The company will publish its annual report for 2024 on 6 February 2025, marking the start of a new chapter under his leadership.
