TotalEnergies has entered into a 15-year agreement with Air Products to procure 70,000 tons of green hydrogen annually in Europe starting from 2030. This deal is part of TotalEnergies’ broader initiative to secure 500,000 tons of green hydrogen per year to decarbonize its European refineries.
Air Products will supply the green hydrogen directly to TotalEnergies’ refineries in Northern Europe from its global supply network. The use of this green hydrogen is expected to prevent approximately 700,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
TotalEnergies is focused on reducing its net greenhouse gas emissions from operated oil and gas activities (Scope 1+2) by 40 percent by 2030, compared to 2015 levels. This agreement with Air Products is a significant step towards achieving that goal.
Air Products, a leading supplier in the hydrogen sector, has committed over $15 billion to energy transition projects.
In addition to the hydrogen agreement, TotalEnergies and Air Products have signed a memorandum of understanding for renewable power supply. This includes a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 150 MW generated from a solar project in Texas. The two companies also plan to explore further PPA opportunities in the UK, Poland, and France.
