Semiconductor chipmaker Intel and Swedish wireless communication products supplier Connode have partnered with Reliance Energy, India, to build a smart city network in Mumbai.

Reliance Energy is to connect smart meters, streetlights and distribution automation equipment in Mumbai using Intel’s IoT Gateways and Connode wireless mesh communications solution as part of phase-I of the project.

According to a statement issued jointly by the three companies, the smart sustainable city network will mark the maiden smart meter deployment in India. These meters are expected to be fully compliant with the government’s machine-to-machine roadmap.
