India adds 2,311 MW renewable generation capacity in 7 months

India has added 2,311.88 MW of grid-connected power generation capacity from renewable energy sources like solar and wind till October of this financial year, against the full fiscal’s target of 4,460 MW, an official statement said on Thursday.

A total of 827.22 MW of solar power generation capacity was added in this period, taking the cumulative electricity generation capacity from the source to 4,579.24 MW, said the new and renewable energy ministry statement.

Wind power generation capacity of 1,234.11 MW was added in these seven months, taking cumulative electricity generation capacity from wind to 24,677.72 MW. The government has a target of adding 2,400 MW of wind power generation capacity in 2015-16.

In small-hydro projects, 106.55 MW generation capacity was added till October, taking the total generation capacity in this category to 4,161.90 MW. The capacity addition target for this fiscal is 250 MW.

In the bio-power segment, 132 MW of generation capacity was added during the period in consideration, taking the total capacity to 4,550.55 MW in this segment.

India’s total grid-connected power generation capacity from all renewable sources at the end of October was 3,8096.49 MW.
