E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI), in collaboration with the Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) and SOLV Energy, marked a significant milestone with the groundbreaking of the San Juan 1 project.
This groundbreaking event celebrated the commencement of construction on the ambitious 200 MWac solar and 400 MWh energy storage facility located in Farmington, New Mexico.
The event drew the participation of various local stakeholders, as well as leadership representatives from DESRI, PNM, SOLV Energy, the United States Department of Energy, the Navajo Nation, San Juan County, and the Cities of Kirtland and Farmington. It was also attended by officials from the state of New Mexico.
The groundbreaking ceremony symbolized the pivotal role of San Juan 1 in New Mexico’s ongoing energy transition and underlined the commitment to invest in the Four Corners region. It also paid homage to the rich history of energy production in the community, which has powered the Southwest for generations.
The San Juan 1 project has secured 20-year power purchase agreements with PNM, signifying a strong commitment to providing clean energy to the region. The project is currently in the construction phase, with SOLV Energy leading the development. It is anticipated that the facility will begin commercial operations toward the end of the year 2024, further contributing to New Mexico’s transition towards sustainable and renewable energy sources, Thomas de Swardt, Chief Commercial Officer of DESRI, said.
The San Juan 1 project represents a substantial investment in the region’s clean energy infrastructure, strengthening the commitment to a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future while continuing to honor the area’s historical contributions to energy production.
