The authorities of Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway are joining together to build a waste-to-energy plant.
This will be the district’s first solid waste management plant, and is getting ready for operations by 2016.
This Rs 260-crore project aims to promote renewable energy in the region.
A state-of-art 10MW waste-to-energy plant and 5MW solar energy plant are finalized as part of the project.
Together these two plants aim to generate energy worth Rs 100 crore, which will be sold to the power corporation.
The plant on completion will treat approx. 1,000 tons of waste generated daily.
Already, the group has floated tenders and submitted a detailed report for clearance from Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) panel.
Within 5 years, authorities plan to recover the project cost and produce additional power with less than 10 percent reusable residue causing minimum environment impact, said, Samakant Srivastava, project in-charge, PE (Outer) Noida.
Non-conventional energy sources have become a necessary commodity for a power-starved Uttar Pradesh, officials stated.
In another initiative, a plan to harness energy from city’s two main sewage treatment plants (STP) is in progress. The Rs 19-crore project is expected to be operational in the next six months.
This project is pending for final approval from the authority.
The project is carried out in collaboration with IIT Roorkee.
Once in place, the two STPs will produce 8.10 lakh and 5.10 lakh units of power every year. The treated sewage will save 19 lakh units of power every year.
Under the strategy of promoting Noida as a green city, every building will have atop solar panels to generate energy, stated officials.
