Metso has signed an agreement with Babcock & Wilcox Volund to supply automation for a green-field energy-from-waste plant in Peterborough, UK.

Using advanced automation solutions, operators can control the process of transforming waste into green energy and manage plant operations.

The new plant will be operated and maintained by Viridor, a waste management company in Europe. Once completed in 2015, it will have a capacity to treat 85,000 tons of waste per year. The plant’s electrical power generation capacity will be 7.25 MW. Babcock & Wilcox Volund is responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the plant.

Metso’s delivery scope consists of a Metso DNA automation system, an information management system and a fully integrated machine monitoring solution to predict mechanical faults in machinery. Project handover is scheduled to take place in December 2015. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

Neil Buckland, sales director, UK, Automation, Metso said, “The Metso DNA automation system is installed in 60 to 70 percent of UK’s energy-from-waste plants. To support customers and provide them with professional services throughout the plant life cycle, company has a local service organization in the UK.”
