To commemorate the occasion, a special event was sponsored at Best Buy headquarters.

Having diverted a billion pounds of waste from ending up in landfills gives a reason to celebrate, said, John Shegerian, Chairman, CEO, ERI.

At the event, Best Buy revealed a number of statistics and data it has gathered in a nationwide survey surrounding consumers and e-waste.

The statistics revealed that at present 39 percent of consumers recycle their electronics and appliances and in future around 70 percent intend to do so, showing the need for convenient electronic recycling options.

In addition, Best Buy announced a new goal to gather another two billion pounds of electronics and appliances for recycling in the next six years.

Based on the event, Green is Good, the nation’s sustainability themed radio program, hosted by Shegerian, also produced a special broadcast from the event via iHeartRadio.
