Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements on Tata Power, RWE, RES, Repsol, among others.
Tata Power Signs PPA for 200MW Hybrid Renewable Project
Tata Power Renewable has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a 200MW hybrid renewable energy project. The project will combine solar and wind power sources and will be developed across multiple locations in India. It is expected to be completed within 24 months and generate around 1,300 million units of clean electricity annually. This initiative supports India’s renewable energy goals and will help reduce carbon emissions. The project is part of TPREL’s growing renewable energy portfolio, which now exceeds 7.8GW including 4.1GW in operation.
RWE to Begin Construction on German Wind Farm
RWE will start building a new onshore wind farm in Germany, consisting of nine turbines near the Garzweiler opencast mine. The turbines will be connected to the public grid using RWE Power’s existing electrical infrastructure. This project is part of RWE’s broader strategy to repurpose former mining areas for clean energy production, supporting Germany’s transition to renewables. The wind farm is expected to be operational by the end of 2025 and will contribute to increasing the country’s renewable energy capacity and local economic development.
RES Clears Key Permit Stage for Welsh Wind Farm
Renewable Energy Systems (RES) has reached a major milestone with the validation of its planning application for the 13-turbine Mynydd Maen Wind Farm in South Wales. Located near Pontypool, the wind farm could power around 55,000 homes annually and significantly support Wales’ net-zero targets. The project also includes plans for community benefits and a local economic contribution of over £26 million. It aligns with the Welsh Government’s goal of generating 70 percent of electricity from renewables by 2030 and reflects RES’s focus on sustainable development.
Repsol Powers Up 364MW Antofagasta Wind Farm in Chile
Repsol has commenced electricity production at its 364MW Antofagasta Phase 1 wind farm in Taltal, Antofagasta region, Chile. This marks Repsol’s largest wind project to date and one of the country’s most significant. The project, developed over 19 months with an investment of nearly €400 million, is expected to generate approximately 750 GWh annually — enough to power around 220,000 Chilean households. This initiative supports Chile’s renewable energy targets and underscores Repsol’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio. A second phase, wholly owned by Repsol, is planned in the same region with an additional 450 MW capacity.
