Salgenx, Standard Solar, Tigo Energy, Elicom, among others, announced their renewable energy projects or partnerships.
Salgenx Converts Oil Wells into Grid-Scale Energy Storage
Salgenx has introduced a method to transform abandoned oil wells into grid-scale energy storage systems using its membrane-free chlorine flow battery technology. This system utilizes the naturally occurring brine (saltwater) in oil wells as an electrolyte, significantly reducing infrastructure costs. The process involves charging the battery with solar PV during the day and discharging stored energy at night, boasting an impressive 91 percent round-trip efficiency at a low cost of $100/kWh. Additionally, some oil wells contain hot producer water, which can generate electricity using Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) technology.
Standard Solar Acquires 9MW of Community Solar Projects in Illinois
Standard Solar has expanded its presence in Illinois by acquiring two community solar farms (9MW total) in Zion and Kankakee County. These projects align with Illinois’ clean energy goal of reaching 100 percent renewable power by 2050. The 2.53MW Zion project will generate 3,705 MWh annually, while the 6.65MW Kankakee project will produce 10,507 MWh per year, both expected to be operational by early 2026. This acquisition strengthens Standard Solar’s 150MW+ portfolio in Illinois.
New Public EV Fast-Charging Station Opens in Chatham, MA
The Town of Chatham, in collaboration with Rivermoor Energy, Weston & Sampson, and Eversource, has launched a public EV charging station at Eldredge Public Parking Lot. Featuring four Level 3 fast chargers and four Level 2 chargers, this facility helps address the EV charging gap in Cape Cod, benefiting 230,000 residents and 5.5 million annual visitors. This initiative aligns with Chatham’s commitment to sustainability, encourages EV adoption, supports local businesses, and contributes to the region’s long-term environmental goals.
