ENGIE, Hecate Energy, Nagoya Institute, Nobina, STABL Energy, LG Energy, among others, announced their renewable energy projects.
PEC Construction Management to Oversee Sunfish Solar 2 in Michigan
Hecate Energy has chosen PEC Construction Management to manage construction for Sunfish Solar 2 in Calhoun County, Michigan. This is the first project in Hecate’s 1-gigawatt portfolio in the area. The solar facility will generate electricity for about 69,000 homes. The project is part of Consumers Energy’s plan to add 8,000 MW of solar by 2040. The electricity will go to Consumers Energy customers in its Renewable Energy Program.
Nagoya Institute of Technology Develops New Water Purification Catalyst
Researchers at Nagoya Institute of Technology in Japan have created a new material for cleaning water using solar energy. The team used a planetary ball mill to mix molybdenum trioxide and polypropylene into a composite material. This method is efficient and cost-effective. The new material absorbs light and can break down pollutants without light. It also heats water using sunlight, allowing quick evaporation. Leftover carbon from the process can remove heavy metals from wastewater.
ENGIE Expands Solar and Storage Partnership with Ares Management
ENGIE North America has expanded its partnership with Ares Management by adding a 0.9 GW portfolio of solar and storage projects. ENGIE will keep control and manage the assets. The portfolio includes three solar projects and one battery storage project. ENGIE operates more than 11 GW of renewable energy in the U.S. and Canada, with a global target of 95 GW by 2030.
Nobina and STABL Energy Partner for Bus Battery Storage
Nobina and STABL Energy are working together to reuse old bus batteries for energy storage. This will extend battery life, reduce waste, and provide backup power. The project aims to install battery storage at Nobina’s depots, helping balance energy supply and lower costs. Using bus batteries for storage reduces the need for new materials and delays recycling. Nobina operates over 1,000 electric buses and estimates a battery capacity of more than 500 MWh.
LG Energy Solution to Supply Batteries for Poland’s Energy Storage
LG Energy Solution has signed an agreement with PGE to supply 981 MWh of battery energy storage in Poland between 2026 and 2027. The companies will build a storage facility in Żarnowiec, with operations starting in 2027. LG Energy Solution will provide battery systems and engineering services. This will be the first grid-scale battery project from its Poland facility.
