GE Vernova has announced an agreement to acquire Alteia SAS, a France-based software company specializing in artificial intelligence (AI), computer vision, and machine learning. The acquisition is part of GE Vernova’s strategic plan to strengthen its AI capabilities and provide utilities with advanced visual intelligence solutions for improved situational awareness and operational efficiency.

Alteia’s technology is already embedded in GE Vernova’s GridOS Visual Intelligence platform, which helps utilities monitor and manage the electric grid during disruptive events like wildfires and storms. The software uses AI-enabled visual data to assess damage, detect vegetation overgrowth, and inspect critical infrastructure along power lines. By integrating Alteia into its Electrification Software business, GE Vernova aims to accelerate the development of AI-powered workflows that connect visual data with core operational systems such as Advanced Distribution Management Software.

The acquisition will enable utilities to “see and sense” the grid with higher precision, allowing for quicker damage assessments, more accurate asset monitoring, and faster restoration of services. The enhanced capabilities are expected to reduce the risk of catastrophic grid failures and strengthen overall system resilience.

Scott Reese, CEO of GE Vernova’s Electrification Software unit, emphasized the importance of the acquisition in solving daily challenges faced by utilities. He noted that the move would help transform how visual data and AI are used in real-time grid operations and reaffirm GE Vernova’s position as a leader in data-driven grid orchestration.

Alteia CEO Michael de Lagarde called the acquisition a perfect alignment of visions, enabling faster delivery of intelligent infrastructure solutions. He highlighted the shared mission to build resilient infrastructure networks through advanced AI applications.
