Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has secured an order worth ₹11,000 crore from Adani Power and its subsidiary, Mahan Energen (MEL), to set up three supercritical thermal power projects. These projects, each with a 2×800 MW capacity, will be located in Kawai, Rajasthan, and Mahan, Madhya Pradesh.
BHEL disclosed that the Kawai Phase-II project will be completed in 49 months, Kawai Phase-III in 52 months, and the Mahan Phase-III project in 55 months. BHEL’s responsibilities will include supplying equipment and overseeing the erection and commissioning of these power plants. BHEL will supply boilers, turbines, generators, and associated auxiliaries, as well as control and instrumentation systems.
This development comes as BHEL reported a 9.6 percent year-on-year growth in revenue to ₹5,484 crore for the April-June quarter (Q1 FY25).
Adani Power has recorded a 95 percent increase in profit before tax (PBT), amounting to ₹4,483 crore in the same quarter, driven by higher EBITDA and lower finance costs, IANS report said.
Adani Power’s power sale volume saw 38 percent growth to 24.1 billion units in Q1 FY25, reflecting increased power demand and expanded operating capacity.
The surge in power demand across India has been noteworthy, with a 10.6 percent year-on-year growth in aggregate power demand and a 12 percent increase in peak demand, reaching a record level of 250 GW in the first quarter. Adani Power currently operates a total installed thermal power capacity of 15,210 MW across multiple states and a 40 MW solar power plant in Gujarat.
