Orange County ’s most sustainable organizations honored

Businesses, institution, non-profit organization and an individual were honored with USGBC-OC Eco-Awards recognition for their contribution in making Orange County a more sustainable place.

The USGBC is a national firm focusing primarily on green buildings and LEED Certification, which has launched its mission in Orange County to help make sustainability a priority among citizens.

The Eco-Awards aim to platform governmental agencies, citizens, businesses and organizations that are making a difference in the County.

The awards ceremony was held at the LEED Gold Certified Green Building at Newport Beach Civic Center.

The Eco-City Award was given to City of Anaheim. LPA was selected as the most sustainable design/engineering firm. Parker Properties was announced as the most sustainable developer and ORCO Block & Hardscape stood number 1 in the manufacturer category.

Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa was awarded with most sustainable hotel whereas Kéan Coffee, Artisan Roasters were named as the most sustainable Restaurant in the County.

In addition, VCA Green/Doria II Project was chosen for most sustainable home category while Chapman University ranked no.1 in school section.

Most Sustainable Non-Governmental Organization award was declared for Environmental Nature Center at Newport Beach.

Sara Neff received award for individual leader in sustainability segment for her contributions in sustainability achievements.

City of Anaheim is receiving Eco City Award for the second time. Projects such as ARTIC, the accomplishments of Disney in sustainability and green practices, and the City’s support for green buildings and projects is commendable, indicated, Robyn Vettraino, VC, USGBC-OC.

The recipients were selected through nominations, reviewed by a panel of local leaders in sustainability and the judges measured experts on the basis of contribution for their time and knowledge in sustainability for the awards.
