Greentech Lead U.S: Information technology consulting
firm Wipro Technologies announced its flagship data center at King’s Mountain,
North Carolina has been awarded LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green
Building Council (USGBC).
LEED is the USGBC’s leading rating system for designing
and constructing the world’s greenest, most energy efficient, and high
performing buildings.
“Wipro’s LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green
building leadership,” said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding
chair, U.S. Green Building Council. “The urgency of USGBC’s mission has
challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before and
Wipro serves as a prime example with just how much we can accomplish.”
Wipro’s King’s Mountain Data Center achieved LEED Gold
certification for the energy, lighting, water, and materials used during
construction, as well as the sustainable savings to be realized during the
ongoing operation of the data center.
The company has succeeded in reducing overall carbon
emission by diverting and recycling over 98 percent of construction waste. In
addition to this, the data center has adopted several measures such as sourcing
the building materials regionally, reducing impervious space, installing highly
efficient interior lighting system, reducing water usage by efficient use of water
and water harvesting. The company has achieved 40 percent reduction in overall
water usage and 17 percent reduction in energy usage.
“From conceptual design to construction, our team has
learned much about cutting-edge green building technology and takes a
tremendous amount of pride in building our eco-friendly facility. There are
less than 50 Data Centers in the world today which are LEED Gold certified, and
we are thrilled to be a part of this exclusive group,” said Pinaki Kar,
CEO, Wipro Data Center Services.
