Nadara Advances 1.8 GW Bellrock Floating Wind Project With Transmission Filing
Nadara has submitted a Scoping Report and Habitats Regulations Appraisal screening report for transmission infrastructure serving the 1.8 GW Bellrock floating offshore wind farm in Scotland. The company has also selected Cowie, north of Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire, as the landfall for the project’s export cables. Bellrock is planned approximately 120 km offshore and could feature as many as 120 floating wind turbines. Export infrastructure would connect toward SSEN Transmission’s proposed Hurlie substation. Nadara expects to submit a full marine licence application covering the Offshore Transmission Development Area by the end of 2027, while offshore construction is envisaged for the early 2030s. The filing materially advances environmental assessment and grid-connection planning for one of Scotland’s largest floating-wind developments.
Volta Polska Starts Construction of 6 MW / 15 MWh Standalone Battery
Volta Polska has begun construction of its first standalone battery energy-storage project in Poland, a 6 MW/15 MWh BESS at Połaniec. The storage facility will connect directly to the Polish electricity grid rather than being co-located with a solar or wind plant. Commissioning is planned for early 2027. Once operational, the battery will provide grid flexibility and stability services while helping accommodate increasing volumes of renewable electricity. The construction start represents Volta Polska’s first physical deployment in standalone storage and broadens the wider Volta Group’s business beyond solar and wind. The parent group currently has roughly 250 MWp of renewable assets operating or under construction and a development pipeline of around 500 MWp, primarily across Europe and the Indian Ocean region.
Northium Receives Batteries for 20.7 MW / 52 MWh First German Storage Project
Danish storage developer Northium Energy has completed delivery of battery units for its first German BESS, a 20.7 MW/52 MWh facility in Lower Saxony. The project, known as Project Ems, is now under construction and is expected to enter commercial operation by the end of 2026. With approximately 2.5 hours of storage duration, the facility is designed to provide flexibility and grid services as Germany integrates larger volumes of intermittent wind and solar generation. Delivery of the battery systems represents an important construction milestone because Project Ems will become Northium’s first operational storage asset. Germany is emerging as one of Europe’s fastest-growing large-scale battery markets as developers target intraday electricity trading, balancing markets and other flexibility revenues created by increasing renewable penetration.
