MOL Commissions $8.2 Million Biomethane Plant with 7 Million Cubic Metres Annual Capacity

Hungarian energy company MOL Group has inaugurated its first biomethane production facility in Szarvas, Hungary, following an investment exceeding HUF 2.7 billion ($8.2 million). The installation can produce more than 7 million cubic metres of biomethane annually, equivalent to the natural gas consumption of approximately 8,500 households. The project upgrades biogas generated from agricultural and food-processing waste to pipeline-quality renewable methane. MOL acquired the original Szarvas biogas facility in 2023. The plant processes more than 40,000 tonnes of meat-industry waste, 53,000 tonnes of residual waste and approximately 18,000 tonnes of agricultural feedstock annually. Italian technology supplier Gruppo AB provided the biomethane upgrading equipment.

Peak Energy and Hyundai Motor Securities Target 100 MW Rooftop Solar in South Korea

Singapore-based renewable-energy developer Peak Energy and Hyundai Motor Securities have established a joint venture to finance, develop and operate industrial rooftop solar installations across Hyundai Motor Group’s supplier network. The HMS-Peak Energy venture targets approximately 100 MW of rooftop photovoltaic capacity within two years. Five projects totalling 13 MW have already been secured with major Tier-1 automotive suppliers. Participating manufacturers will purchase renewable electricity under long-term power purchase agreements. The programme will focus on energy-intensive suppliers seeking to reduce electricity expenditure and manufacturing emissions. Peak Energy, backed by Stonepeak, operates approximately 300 MW of renewable assets across Asia-Pacific and has another 2 GW under development. Individual project investments were not disclosed.

US Government Seeks Fresh Review of 704 MW Revolution Wind Offshore Project Approval

The US Department of Justice has asked a federal court to return the construction and operations approval for the 704 MW Revolution Wind offshore project to the Department of the Interior for reconsideration. The project, jointly owned by Ørsted and Skyborn Renewables, is located off Rhode Island and has completed turbine installation. Its 65 turbines are designed to supply 400 MW to Rhode Island and 304 MW to Connecticut. The project began delivering electricity in March 2026 and is progressing through final commissioning. The government’s filing seeks additional review of compliance with federal offshore energy legislation. The court has not ruled on the request. Full commercial operation remains targeted for late 2026.
