CATL and Quinbrook Advance 3 GWh Supernode BESS as Phase 3 Secures AUD 469 Million
Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners and CATL have reached major milestones on Australia’s Supernode battery energy storage campus in Brendale, north of Brisbane. Phase 2 has entered commercial operation, while Phase 3 has achieved financial close on AUD 469 million of financing. The Supernode development is expected to exceed 3 GWh of planned storage capacity, making it Australia’s largest operating BESS campus as development progresses. CATL is supplying energy-storage systems across all three phases and providing lifecycle support. The site adjoins Queensland’s South Pine substation, giving it access to approximately 4,000 MW of grid-connection capacity and positioning the project for phased expansion. The development demonstrates the increasing scale of battery infrastructure being built to support renewable integration and grid flexibility.
Kearsarge Energy Adds 70 MWh of Battery Storage in 2026, Targets 200 MWh Construction in 2027
Kearsarge Energy is implementing four new battery energy storage system projects totaling 70 MWh during 2026, expanding a storage portfolio that has reached 104 MWh since 2019. The Boston-based independent power producer expects to move into construction on another 200 MWh of BESS capacity in 2027, indicating a significant acceleration of its storage pipeline. Kearsarge entered battery storage after installing National Grid’s first distributed-generation solar-plus-storage project in Amesbury, Massachusetts, in 2019. Its projects combine battery technology with financing structures, utility coordination and participation in ISO New England wholesale markets. The company’s latest expansion highlights the growing role of distributed and independently owned battery systems in balancing renewable generation, managing peak demand and supporting grid reliability across the northeastern United States.
Sungrow Wins 606 MWh Chile BESS Deal for Verano Energy’s Observatorio Solar Project
Sungrow will supply a 152 MW / 606 MWh battery energy storage system for Verano Energy’s Observatorio renewable-energy project in Chile. The four-hour BESS will use Sungrow’s PowerTitan 2.0 technology and will be supported by a 25-year Long-Term Service Agreement, giving the project long-term operational and maintenance coverage. Observatorio will combine the storage facility with a 135 MW solar photovoltaic plant using Sungrow SG350HX-20 inverters. The batteries will store surplus solar generation and dispatch electricity during higher-demand periods, improving grid flexibility and renewable-energy utilisation. Verano Energy is an independent power producer developing renewable assets across Latin America. The contract strengthens Sungrow’s position in Chile’s rapidly expanding energy-storage market, where large batteries are becoming increasingly important as solar capacity grows.
