Solarpro and CATL Connect 602-MWh Battery Storage Project to Bulgaria’s Grid

Bulgarian renewable energy contractor Solarpro Technology and Chinese battery giant CATL have successfully commissioned a 602-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Burgas, Bulgaria, marking one of the largest energy storage projects in Eastern Europe. The facility has been connected to the national electricity grid and is expected to increase Bulgaria’s installed energy storage capacity by approximately 10%, strengthening the country’s ability to integrate renewable energy and improve grid stability.  Solarpro acted as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor, while CATL supplied its advanced TENER 6-MWh battery units. The technology features a compact design with enhanced resistance to corrosion and seismic activity, making it suitable for large-scale grid applications.  The project comes as Bulgaria emerges as one of Europe’s fastest-growing battery storage markets, with installed storage capacity more than doubling since the beginning of 2026. Solarpro and CATL have also announced plans to expand their cooperation on future energy storage projects across Bulgaria and the wider region, supporting renewable energy integration and energy security objectives.

Otovo to Acquire Israel’s Green Panel to Expand EMEA Solar Footprint

Norwegian residential solar company Otovo has signed an agreement to acquire Israeli solar installer Green Panel, strengthening its presence across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). The acquisition marks a strategic step in Otovo’s growth plan, enabling the company to expand into the Israeli rooftop solar market and enhance its regional customer base.

Green Panel is a well-established provider of residential solar energy solutions in Israel, a market characterized by high solar irradiation levels, supportive renewable energy policies, and increasing consumer demand for clean energy systems. Through the acquisition, Otovo will gain access to local market expertise, installation capabilities, and an established customer network. The transaction supports Otovo’s strategy of consolidating fragmented residential solar markets through acquisitions while accelerating the adoption of distributed renewable energy solutions. The deal is expected to create operational synergies, strengthen Otovo’s market position, and support future growth in residential solar and energy storage solutions. It also highlights the continued expansion of rooftop solar deployment across the EMEA region as households increasingly seek lower energy costs and greater energy independence.

SRP and Aypa Bring 1-GWh Battery Storage Project Online in Arizona Salt River Project (SRP) and Aypa Power have successfully commissioned a 250-MW/1,000-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Mesa, Arizona, marking one of the largest standalone battery storage projects in the state. The four-hour-duration lithium-ion facility is designed to enhance grid reliability, meet rising electricity demand, and support the integration of growing renewable energy capacity across Arizona. The project will store excess electricity during periods of low demand and discharge it during peak consumption hours, helping to improve grid flexibility, reduce strain on the power network, and ensure a more stable electricity supply. The battery system will also provide essential ancillary services and strengthen the resilience of Arizona’s energy infrastructure, particularly during periods of extreme weather and high power demand. The commissioning represents a significant milestone in SRP’s clean energy strategy and Aypa Power’s expanding energy storage portfolio. The project supports Arizona’s long-term decarbonization, renewable energy integration, and energy security goals while demonstrating the increasingly critical role of large-scale battery storage in modern electricity systems.
