LS Eco Advanced Cables Plans £923 mn Subsea Cable Factory at Port of Tyne

LS Eco Advanced Cables (LSEAC), a joint venture between LS Group and Global InterConnection Group, has announced plans to invest £923 million in constructing a high-voltage subsea cable manufacturing facility at the Port of Tyne in South Shields, UK. The proposed facility aims to produce high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables essential for transmitting electricity from offshore wind farms to the UK mainland. The development is expected to create 500 direct jobs and support an additional 1,000 roles in the supply chain. A five-week public consultation is underway, inviting feedback from local communities and stakeholders before submitting a planning application to South Tyneside Council later this year

ZX Deploys Lidar for 100 MW Wind Project in Faroe Islands

ZX Measurement Services has deployed a lidar system in the Faroe Islands to support the development of the 100 MW Eysturlund Energy Park by local energy company Effo. The lidar will collect wind measurement data essential for evaluating the site’s wind potential and optimizing turbine placement and performance. This initiative marks a key step in advancing renewable energy efforts in the Faroe Islands. The project aims to enhance local energy independence and contribute to the region’s transition toward sustainable energy generation using wind resources.

Romania Launches Second CfD Auction for 3.47 GW of Renewable Energy

Romania’s Ministry of Energy has initiated its second Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction, offering 3.47 GW of renewable energy capacity—comprising 2 GW of onshore wind and 1.47 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. The auction sets maximum strike prices at €80/MWh for wind and €73/MWh for solar PV. Notably, the previous 25 percent cap on the maximum capacity awarded per applicant has been removed to encourage larger-scale projects and enhance cost efficiency. Applications are open until July 11, 2025, with contract awards expected by October 2025. This initiative is part of Romania’s strategy to increase renewable energy capacity and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
