Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements on Serbia’s EPS, Engie wind project, ENGIE and NHOA Energy, among others.
Serbia’s EPS Signs Power Purchase Agreements to Support 168 MW of New Wind Energy
Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), Serbia’s state-owned power utility, has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) to support the development of two new wind farms with a combined capacity of 168 megawatts (MW). These agreements are part of Serbia’s efforts to diversify its energy mix and increase the share of renewable energy sources. The new wind projects will contribute to the country’s goal of enhancing energy security and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Details regarding the specific locations and developers of the wind farms have not been disclosed
Engie to Supply 300 MW of Wind Power to Cipher Mining’s Texas Data Center
French utility Engie has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply up to 300 megawatts (MW) of wind energy to Cipher Mining Inc.’s data center in Texas. This marks Engie’s first PPA where the data center is co-located with the wind power generation site, allowing direct use of excess electricity generated on-site. The arrangement aims to improve energy efficiency and contribute to grid stability. Engie currently has approximately 7 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy assets in the U.S., primarily located in Texas.
ENGIE and NHOA Energy Launch 400 MWh Battery Project in Belgium
ENGIE and NHOA Energy have started construction on a 400 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Kallo, Belgium. The project will enhance grid stability, supporting Belgium’s energy transition as it phases out nuclear plants in 2025. The BESS will supply energy for up to four hours, powering over 48,000 households. NHOA Energy is responsible for delivering the storage system, ensuring its performance, resilience, and cybersecurity. This initiative supports ENGIE’s strategy to integrate renewable energy sources and achieve 10 GW of installed battery capacity worldwide by 2030.
