The Experience Electric – The Better Ride campaign will offer free test drives of latest electric cars on Oct. 11 at the 2014 Biketoberfest at FairAnselm Plaza in Fairfax.

Chevy Volt, smart EV and three cars from Ford: C-MAX Energi, Fusion Energi and Focus Electric will be featured in the electric vehicle ride-and-drive event.

Licensed drivers can ride various EVs and feel the differences between driving with electricity and a gas-powered car. They will receive Experience Electric souvenir sunglasses.

Test-driving at a dealer’s showroom can be a bit intimidating, but there’s no pressure or sales hype. Most everyone has seen an EV on the road or in ads, but this is a chance to try one out, have some fun and feel the electric experience, said, Jordan DiGiorgio, project manager, Experience Electric.

The test drives are part of the annual Biketoberfest event and bike show, a free celebration of bikes, benefitting the Marin County Bicycle Coalition and Access4Bikes.

The Experience Electric campaign is a joint initiative of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and a consortium of EV organizations including the Center for Sustainable Energy, Plug In America and Charge Across Town.

The campaign’s goal is to promote EV adoption in the Bay Area’s nine counties. EV use is promoted in the area by authorities to reduce emissions from gas-powered vehicles and achieve goals for curbing greenhouse emissions.
