Greenleaf Biofuels announced the company produced its one millionth gallon of biodiesel.
Reaching this milestone was a key goal for the company and for the biofuel industry in Connecticut and New England, the company said.
Biodiesel has been shown to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 88 percent. The fuel produced by Greenleaf Biofuels will be mainly used in homes and businesses.
Mark McCall, CEO of Greenleaf, said, “We have been driving towards this day since we began commercial production.”
McCall added the company is looking forward to increase the production further with a goal of exceeding one million gallons per month next year.
Senator Richard Blumenthal, the senior senator from Connecticut said, “I congratulate Greenleaf Biofuels for producing its 1 millionth gallon of biodiesel. The company is assisting our nation in becoming more energy efficient and environmentally friendly, and creating much needed clean energy manufacturing jobs in Connecticut. Greenleaf is a tremendous asset to our state and our nation.”
Greenleaf is a great example of a public-private partnership that delivers on the promise of economic growth and policy objectives. The company’s initiative supports the national policy of increasing the supply of domestically produced renewable fuels.
The achievement also demonstrates the success of the state’s biofuel policy.
