RWE Commissions 19.2 MWp Solar Expansion and Builds 150 MWh Battery in Germany
German energy company RWE has commissioned a 19.2 MWp solar expansion beside the A44n motorway near Jüchen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The new facility has 15.8 MW of alternating-current capacity and was completed in less than six months. The expanded solar complex now totals 105.7 MWp, comprising approximately 171,600 photovoltaic modules. RWE estimates that annual electricity generation will match consumption by approximately 34,000 households. The company is also constructing a 75 MW/150 MWh battery storage facility, scheduled for completion in spring 2027. Both projects occupy reclaimed land associated with the Garzweiler lignite mine. RWE is developing approximately 600 MW of solar and wind capacity across the Rhineland mining region.
Standard Solar Acquires 15.79 MW Solar Portfolio from OneEnergy in Washington
US renewable-energy company Standard Solar has acquired two solar projects totalling 15.79 MWdc from OneEnergy Renewables in Washington state. The portfolio includes the 12.1 MW Palouse Junction project in Connell and the 3.69 MW Cunningham project in Othello. Palouse Junction is expected to generate approximately 22,339 MWh during its first operating year, while Cunningham will produce approximately 6,917 MWh. Franklin Public Utility District and Big Bend Electric Cooperative are the respective electricity offtakers. OneEnergy will remain responsible for engineering, procurement and construction. Both projects are scheduled for completion during the first quarter of 2027. The transaction expands Standard Solar’s distributed generation portfolio in the Pacific Northwest. Financial consideration was not disclosed.
Globeleq Appoints Solarcentury and Alensy for 56 MWp Kafue Solar Project in Zambia
Renewable-energy producer Globeleq has appointed Solarcentury Africa and Alensy Energy Solutions as joint engineering, procurement and construction contractors for the 40 MWac/56 MWp Kafue Solar Project in Zambia’s Lusaka Province. The appointment follows financial close, allowing construction to begin. Solarcentury Africa also served as technical development partner. The project was awarded through the GET FiT Zambia programme and will supply electricity to national utility ZESCO under a 25-year power purchase agreement. Financing is being provided by FMO and British International Investment, with additional support from Norway for associated grid infrastructure upgrades. The construction contract covers delivery of the photovoltaic installation and related infrastructure. Commercial commissioning dates were not disclosed.
