Engie Adds 54 MW / 216 MWh Battery Project in Romania
Engie Romania has acquired a 54 MW/216 MWh battery energy-storage project at Calan in west-central Romania, adding another four-hour storage asset to its rapidly expanding European portfolio. The project is described as ready-to-build, with commercial operation expected in 2029. Engie already has roughly 85 MW/170 MWh of storage capacity under construction in Romania, meaning the new acquisition significantly enlarges its local pipeline. Across several European transactions, Engie has recently added more than 1.1 GW/3.3 GWh of BESS capacity, including projects in Poland, Romania and Spain. The Calan project will provide grid flexibility and support integration of renewable generation in Romania, where utility-scale solar and wind capacity is rising quickly. Transaction value was not disclosed.
TenneT Reaches Major Construction Milestone on 2 GW Dutch Offshore Wind Platform
TenneT has erected the first major structural section of a 2 GW offshore wind converter platform in the Netherlands, advancing construction of infrastructure designed to connect large future North Sea wind farms to the Dutch grid. The 2 GW platform concept forms part of TenneT’s next-generation offshore transmission programme, which standardises higher-capacity grid connections to reduce infrastructure requirements and improve transmission efficiency. Each platform can transmit around 2 GW of offshore wind power, roughly double the capacity of many earlier offshore-grid systems. The construction milestone is significant as the Netherlands works toward major offshore wind expansion during the 2030s. TenneT’s programme involves offshore converter stations, subsea export cables and onshore connections that together will transport renewable electricity from North Sea projects into the national transmission network.
LichtBlick Commissions 44 MWp Solar Park Producing 45 GWh a Year in Germany
LichtBlick has commissioned a 44 MWp solar park in Mühlhausen, Germany, adding a sizeable operating photovoltaic asset to its renewable-energy portfolio. The facility is expected to generate approximately 45 GWh of electricity annually, enough to make a meaningful contribution to regional renewable supply. Commissioning represents the key new milestone, moving the project from development and construction into commercial generation. LichtBlick, headquartered in Hamburg, is expanding from renewable electricity retail into direct ownership and development of generation assets. Germany continues to add solar capacity rapidly as utilities, independent power producers and corporate buyers seek lower-carbon electricity and greater protection from wholesale power-price volatility. The Mühlhausen project strengthens LichtBlick’s owned-generation base while supporting Germany’s broader targets for substantially higher solar capacity by the end of the decade.
R.Power Wins 76 MW of Polish Capacity Contracts for Battery Storage
R.Power Renewables has secured capacity-market contracts totalling 75.994 MW for its Polish battery-storage facilities, with delivery obligations beginning in 2027. The contracts provide annual capacity payments for BESS assets that will be available to support Poland’s electricity system during periods of high demand or constrained supply. Winning capacity-market contracts can materially improve storage-project bankability because they supplement revenues from wholesale trading, balancing services and ancillary markets with contracted income. R.Power has been expanding beyond solar into utility-scale batteries as Poland prepares for a larger share of intermittent renewable generation. The nearly 76 MW award therefore represents an important commercial milestone for the company’s storage strategy and supports further construction of flexible capacity needed as coal-fired generation gradually declines.
