Today’s renewable energy news includes announcements on Iberdrola’s studies for Australian wind farm, Huisman’s offshore crane contract with VARD, RWE and KRONOS TITAN partner on 24.7 MW solar plant, among others.

Iberdrola to Begin Metocean Studies for Australian Offshore Wind Farm

Iberdrola is set to start metocean studies for its proposed offshore wind farm in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. The strategy focuses on gathering environmental and oceanographic data to inform site design, engineering, and permitting processes. Investment figures are not disclosed but are part of Iberdrola’s expansion into the Asia-Pacific renewables market. Technology focus includes deployment of floating LiDAR buoys and wave/current sensors. Customer focus targets Australian grid operators and long-term offtakers. Contracts have been awarded to marine survey providers. Innovation includes data-driven planning to reduce development risk. Benefits include improved site viability, accurate wind resource assessment, and alignment with Australia’s clean energy targets.

Huisman Secures Offshore Crane Contract with VARD

Huisman has signed a contract with shipbuilder VARD to deliver a subsea crane for a new offshore construction vessel. The strategy is to support next-generation installation vessels used in offshore wind and subsea operations. Investment terms were not disclosed. The technology focus includes a fully electric 250-tonne subsea crane with active heave compensation and energy-efficient operation. Customer focus includes offshore wind developers and subsea contractors served by VARD’s newbuild vessel. Contracts include equipment design, manufacturing, and delivery. Innovation involves electric drive systems for lower emissions and improved precision. Benefits include enhanced lifting performance, reduced operational impact, and support for offshore project execution.

RWE and KRONOS TITAN Partner on 24.7 MW Solar Plant to Power Industrial Site in Germany

RWE and KRONOS TITAN are collaborating to build a 24.7 MW ground-mounted solar farm at KRONOS’ industrial site in Nordenham, Lower Saxony. RWE will construct and operate the plant on 20 hectares of leased land, with KRONOS committing to purchase the generated electricity under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). Construction begins this summer, with commissioning expected in spring 2026. The plant will feature about 38,200 solar panels, producing around 22,000 MWh of clean energy annually — significantly contributing to KRONOS’ sustainability goals.
