Castellum, a leading real estate company, is set to mark a significant achievement by unveiling its hundredth solar photovoltaic (PV) system within its property portfolio, accomplishing a crucial sustainability target two years ahead of schedule.

This solar power initiative now contributes to 17 percent of the company’s annual energy consumption, generating a substantial 17.2 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable energy.

“Clear goals create forward momentum and commitment. Our employees have worked hard to reach our target, promoting renewable energy, enhancing self-sufficiency within the company, and boosting profitability,” commented Joacim Sjoberg, Chief Executive Officer of Castellum.

The journey began in 2020 when Castellum launched its ambitious “100 on Solar” initiative with the aim of deploying 100 solar PV systems by 2025. This initiative stands as one of the Nordic region’s most significant investments in solar panels, driving the company’s commitment to sustainable practices.

Notably, Castellum has integrated 120,000 square meters of solar panels across its property portfolio, equivalent to the area of 22 football pitches. Among these installations, the company’s flagship solar PV system, positioned in Gothenburg, stands out as one of northern Europe’s largest. Spanning 30,000 square meters, this solar PV system contributes a substantial 3.3 GWh per year to the renewable energy output.

“Solar panels represent a critical component in Castellum’s roadmap towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. They are instrumental in our power strategy, pivoting buildings from passive energy consumers to active contributors to grid benefit, thereby alleviating strain on an overburdened power grid,” highlighted Filip Elland, Chief Sustainability Officer at Castellum.

Castellum’s achievement of surpassing its solar PV system target ahead of schedule underscores its commitment to advancing sustainable real estate practices. These solar initiatives not only bolster renewable energy generation but also underscore the company’s dedication to significantly reducing its carbon footprint in the coming years.
