Vestas Wins 50 MW Wulfshagen Wind Repowering Order from European Energy in Germany

Vestas has secured a 50 MW wind turbine order from European Energy Deutschland GmbH for the Wulfshagen repowering project in Germany, replacing older wind generation capacity with eight larger V162 turbines.

The order, announced as part of Vestas’ third-quarter 2026 order intake, covers eight Vestas V162-6.2 MW wind turbines. Delivery is planned to start in Q1 2027, while commissioning is scheduled to begin in Q4 2027.

The project is significant because repowering will substantially increase electricity generation from an existing wind site without requiring the development of an entirely new wind farm location.

Wulfshagen Repowering Will Quadruple Wind Capacity

The Wulfshagen development is associated with the repowering of an existing wind farm around Tüttendorf in Schleswig-Holstein, near Kiel. European Energy and Energiequelle received approval for the project in June 2024.

According to details on the Wulfshagen/Tuttendorf wind repowering project, the existing wind farm has an installed capacity of approximately 12.5 MW. Replacing the older turbines with eight Vestas V162 turbines, each rated at 6.2 MW, will increase capacity to 49.6 MW, effectively quadrupling the site’s installed wind power capacity.

Each new turbine will have a total height of approximately 200 metres. The larger turbines and improved wind technology are expected to enable substantially more electricity to be generated from the existing wind resource.

European Energy expects the repowered wind farm to produce approximately 120,000 MWh of renewable electricity annually. The output translates into an estimated capacity factor of around 27.6 percent, based on 49.6 MW of installed capacity and projected annual generation.

The project demonstrates one of the biggest advantages of wind farm repowering in Germany: developers can replace older, lower-capacity turbines with modern machines capable of producing considerably more renewable electricity from an established wind site.

Vestas V162-6.2 MW Turbines Selected

Vestas will supply eight V162-6.2 MW turbines, giving Wulfshagen a nominal capacity of 49.6 MW, rounded to 50 MW in the Vestas order announcement.

The V162 platform combines a 162-metre rotor diameter with multi-megawatt generation capacity, enabling developers to increase electricity output at onshore wind locations.

The turbine supply will also be supported by long-term service agreements. Two turbines will receive 20-year AOM 4000 service agreements, while the remaining six turbines will be covered by 20-year AOM 5000 service agreements.

The 20-year contracts give European Energy long-term support for turbine operations and maintenance, extending Vestas’ involvement well beyond equipment delivery.

Vestas expects deliveries to begin during Q1 2027, followed by the start of commissioning during Q4 2027.

Local Investors Participate in Wulfshagen Wind Project

The Wulfshagen/Tuttendorf development also includes a local ownership component.

European Energy said BWP Tuttendorf Projekt GmbH & Co. KG, a citizen energy company, will become a co-owner of the new wind turbines. The arrangement allows some of the economic benefits created by the repowered wind farm to remain in the surrounding region.

European Energy Expands German Wind Investments

The 50 MW Vestas order is part of a much larger expansion of the European Energy renewable energy business in Germany.

European Energy says its German operations have developed more than 430 wind turbines representing over 1,000 MW of total capacity. The company also reported that 28 new turbines were connected to the German grid during 2024.

European Energy has accelerated its German development pipeline during 2026.

In June, the company secured contracts for 125 MW of German onshore wind projects through a renewable energy auction conducted by Germany’s Federal Network Agency.

The six projects are spread across Saxony-Anhalt, North Rhine-Westphalia, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg, strengthening the developer’s geographical reach across the German wind market.

That was followed in July by permits for another 145 MW of new German wind projects across Lower Saxony, Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt.

The permits cover six projects and allow them to advance toward auctions, financing and construction.

The combination of 125 MW of auction-backed projects, 145 MW of newly permitted wind capacity and the 50 MW Wulfshagen repowering order demonstrates the scale of European Energy’s expansion in Germany.

German Renewable Pipeline Reaches 2.2 GW

European Energy’s activities in Germany extend beyond individual wind projects.

As of December 2025, the company had 118 MW of onshore wind capacity under construction in Germany, while its development pipeline across onshore wind, solar and battery storage had reached approximately 2.2 GW.

European Energy also reported that it operated more than 160 onshore wind assets in Germany, holding majority stakes in more than 100. The German wind assets in which European Energy held majority ownership represented more than 500 MW of capacity.

European Energy agreed in March 2026 to divest 50 percent of a 32.8 MW onshore wind project in Saxony-Anhalt to the QEEE fund. The six-turbine project is expected to enter operation between November 2026 and February 2027.

Repowering Supports Germany’s Wind Expansion

The Wulfshagen figures demonstrate the potential. Installed capacity is set to increase from 12.5 MW to 49.6 MW, while annual renewable electricity generation is expected to reach approximately 120 GWh.

European Energy has already applied the strategy elsewhere. In September 2025, the company completed the sale of a majority interest in a 33 MW repowered German wind portfolio in Saxony-Anhalt. European Energy retained a 25 percent stake and continued providing technical and commercial management services.
