The global wind energy market is gaining momentum in 2026 as developers advance large-scale onshore and nearshore projects supported by bigger turbines, battery storage, long-term power purchase agreements and new grid infrastructure.
Major developments include Australia’s 800 MW Goombi Renewable Energy Hub with 3,200 MWh of battery storage, Turkiye’s 525 MW Sivas project, more than 480 MW of new U.S. turbine orders, Vietnam’s 200 MW Phu Cuong nearshore project and new wind capacity across India, South Africa, Scotland and Romania.
Goombi Plans A$2 Billion 800 MW Wind and Storage Hub
Australia’s Goombi Renewable Energy Hub is planned with up to 800 MW of onshore wind generation and an 800 MW/3,200 MWh battery energy storage system in Queensland.
The development represents approximately A$2 billion in capital expenditure and could generate more than 2.2 million MWh of electricity annually while avoiding approximately 1.6 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
Goombi could support around 250-300 jobs during peak construction and up to 12 permanent positions.
Grid connection is planned through a new substation connected to Powerlink Queensland’s transmission network. The project remains under assessment, with commissioning targeted for January 2031.
Nordex Wins 525 MW Wind Turbine Order in Türkiye
Nordex has secured a 525 MW order from Türkerler Holding for the YEKA-5 R25 Sivas wind project in Türkiye.
The project will deploy 72 N175/6.X turbines from the Delta4000 platform, each featuring a 108-meter hub height. Installation of the first turbine is scheduled for the third quarter of 2027.
The contract includes a 10-year Premium Service agreement, with an option to extend servicing to as long as 25 years. Nordex described the deal as its largest single turbine order in Türkiye.
Nordex Secures More Than 480 MW of U.S. Wind Orders
Nordex also secured three U.S. orders totaling more than 480 MW in August 2026.
The contracts cover 81 N163/5.X turbines, which will be produced through Nordex’s U.S. manufacturing network.
Customers and individual projects were not disclosed, but the orders highlight the growing role of domestic turbine manufacturing in the U.S. wind supply chain.
Envision Wins 200 MW Vietnam Nearshore Wind Project
Envision Energy secured the 200 MW Phu Cuong 1A and 1B nearshore wind project from REE Energy in Vietnam.
The project will use 25 EN-226/8.X YE turbines, making it Envision’s largest wind project in Vietnam and its largest overseas nearshore development to date.
Turbine deliveries are expected to start in the second quarter of 2027, with grid connection targeted for October 2027.
GE Vernova Supplies 163.4 MW for Rajasthan Wind Farm
Enfinity Global’s Fatehgarh Wind Farm in Rajasthan will use 43 GE Vernova turbines providing 163.4 MW of total capacity. Each turbine has a capacity of 3.8 MW and uses GE Vernova’s 3.8 MW-154m platform.
Deliveries are scheduled to begin during the fourth quarter of 2026. The project will also use GE Vernova’s AI-powered digital blade-certification technology to support turbine performance and availability.
Gujarat 100 MW Wind Project Secures 25-Year PPA
KP Energy reached a major commercial milestone for a 100 MW grid-connected wind project in Gujarat by signing a power purchase agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited.
The project, awarded under GUVNL’s Wind Tender Phase X, secured an electricity tariff of ₹3.435 per unit for 25 years.
Power supply is scheduled to begin on July 30, 2028, providing the project with a defined long-term revenue structure.
Oyster Renewable Invests ₹385 Crore in 52.8 MW Wind Capacity
Oyster Renewable Energy commissioned 52.8 MW of wind capacity at Dayapar in Gujarat in July 2026.
The project comprises 16 turbines and represents an investment of approximately ₹385 crore.
It is the second phase of a 99 MW Gujarat wind development for Jindal Stainless, which forms part of a larger 315.6 MW solar-wind hybrid project spanning Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
The complete Gujarat wind facility is expected to comprise 30 turbines with approximately ₹725 crore of investment, while total investment in the broader project exceeds ₹2,000 crore.
Commercial operation of the 52.8 MW phase was declared on July 30, 2026.
South Africa Adds 155 MW Wind Farm
Seriti Green’s Ummbila Emoyeni Wind Farm Phase One reached commercial operation in South Africa in August 2026, adding 155 MW of renewable capacity.
The wind farm uses 25 Goldwind GWH182-6.2 MW turbines.
Each turbine features a rotor diameter of 183.5 meters, which Goldwind described as the largest rotor diameter among operational South African wind projects at the time.
RWE Completes 70 MW Scottish Wind Farm
RWE completed construction of the 70 MW Enoch Hill onshore wind farm in East Ayrshire, Scotland, on August 11, 2026.
The project is RWE’s second Scottish onshore wind farm completed during 2026 and adds new renewable generation to Scotland’s electricity system.
OX2 Orders Turbines for 77 MW Romania Wind Project
Nordex secured another European order from OX2 for an approximately 77 MW wind project in Romania.
The development will use 11 Nordex turbines, adding new high-capacity onshore wind technology to Romania’s expanding renewable-energy market.
