Vestas Secures 86 MW German Wind Order from JUWI for Mehring II and Breuberg Projects

Vestas has secured an 86 MW onshore wind turbine order from renewable energy developer JUWI GmbH for the Mehring II and Breuberg wind projects in Germany. The two projects will deploy 14 Vestas V162-6.2 MW turbines and are scheduled to enter commissioning during 2028.

The order, recorded as part of Vestas’ third-quarter intake, strengthens the company’s position in Germany’s accelerating onshore wind market. Although Vestas reports each project at 43 MW, seven turbines rated at 6.2 MW provide a nominal capacity of 43.4 MW per site, or 86.8 MW across both projects.

Mehring II Wind Project Targets Q2 2028 Commissioning

JUWI’s Mehring II project will feature seven V162-6.2 MW wind turbines with a combined nominal capacity of 43.4 MW. Turbine delivery is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027, followed by the start of commissioning in the second quarter of 2028.

The project will be covered by a 20-year Vestas Active Output Management 4000 service agreement. The long-term contract will support preventive maintenance, turbine availability and operational performance throughout a significant portion of the wind farm’s operating life.

Mehring II expands JUWI’s renewable energy activities in Rhineland-Palatinate, one of the company’s established German development markets. JUWI has delivered numerous wind farms across the state, including projects at Ellern, Gau-Bickelheim, Rehborn and Morbach.

Breuberg Wind Farm Scheduled for Q3 2028

The Breuberg project will also use seven V162-6.2 MW turbines, providing another 43.4 MW of nominal generating capacity. Delivery is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2028, while commissioning is planned to begin in the third quarter of 2028.

Vestas will support Breuberg through a separate 20-year AOM 4000 service agreement. Together, the two contracts represent 40 project-years of long-term turbine servicing across the 14-unit portfolio.

Located in Hesse, the Breuberg development will add new wind generation capacity to a region where JUWI already has experience developing projects in complex and forested terrain.

V162-6.2 MW Turbines Support Higher Project Output

Both wind farms will use Vestas’ V162-6.2 MW turbine variant. The high-capacity platform allows JUWI to develop almost 87 MW of nominal capacity with only 14 turbines, equivalent to an average of 6.2 MW per machine.

Using fewer, more powerful turbines can reduce the number of foundations, access roads, electrical connections and individual turbine locations required for a project. The final electricity production of Mehring II and Breuberg will depend on wind conditions, hub heights, site layouts, grid availability and operational performance.

The phased timetable will see delivery begin first at Mehring II in late 2027, followed by Breuberg in early 2028. Commissioning will then progress from the second to the third quarter of 2028.

JUWI Expands 3 GW Global Wind Portfolio

The Vestas order builds on JUWI’s extensive wind-development record. The renewable energy company says it has installed more than 1,300 wind turbines with approximately 3,000 MW of capacity across around 250 locations. JUWI has also developed more than 2,000 solar plants representing over 4,000 MW and employs about 1,350 people across eight countries.

In Germany, JUWI crossed the 3,000 MW installed-wind milestone while constructing the 24.15 MW Olsberg-Mannstein and 22 MW Olsberg-Antfeld projects. Those two developments comprise 11 turbines and approximately 46 MW of combined capacity.

Germany Needs 46.9 GW More Onshore Wind Capacity by 2030

The Mehring II and Breuberg projects are advancing as Germany accelerates onshore wind construction. The country added a net 4.6 GW of onshore wind capacity during 2025, sharply above the 2.6 GW installed in 2024. Total installed onshore capacity reached 68.1 GW at the end of 2025.

Germany is targeting 115 GW of onshore wind capacity by 2030, leaving a gap of approximately 46.9 GW. The Federal Network Agency estimates that average annual additions of around 9.4 GW will be required to reach the target. The combined 86 MW Vestas-JUWI order represents a relatively small part of that national requirement, but it illustrates the growing pipeline of high-capacity projects expected to support Germany’s wind expansion later this decade.
