Vestas, a leading wind turbine manufacturer, has clinched an order from Thyboron-Harboore Vindmollelaug for the deployment of a V236-15.0 MW wind turbine. Financial details were not disclosed.
The wind power project will be situated directly on the waterfront within the Port of Thyboron, situated in the northwestern region of Denmark.
The order encompasses the procurement, delivery, and commissioning of a single V236-15.0 MW wind turbine. Vestas will provide a 20-year AOM4000 service agreement, ensuring the turbine’s operational efficiency over its lifespan, along with an agreement to conduct test and verification activities on the turbine.
Jens Jorgen Birch, spokesperson for Thyboron-Harboore Vindmollelaug, expressed enthusiasm regarding the project, noting the significant involvement of nearly 2,800 local shareholders in financing the turbine. Birch anticipates that the turbine will not only serve as a sustainable energy source but also become a local attraction for residents and tourists alike.
Nils de Baar, President of Vestas Northern and Central Europe, highlighted the company’s swift progress, stating, “We will start production and installation of the first offshore projects featuring the V236-15.0 MW turbine. The 264 days approval process from the municipality has been extremely quick.”
The V236-15.0 MW wind turbine has already undergone testing as a prototype at the Osterild National test center in Denmark. With orders secured for offshore projects in Germany, Poland, and the Netherlands, Vestas is poised to commence offshore installations of these turbines starting from 2025.
The designated site for the turbine installation, Nissum Bredning, is located in Thyboron within Lemvig Municipality in northern Denmark. Turbine delivery is slated to commence in the first quarter of 2024, with commissioning expected to be completed by the second quarter of the same year, marking a significant milestone in Denmark’s renewable energy landscape.
