Vestas secures order for Oga Katagami Akita wind project in Japan

Vestas has secured a 315 MW order for the Oga Katagami Akita Offshore Wind Project in Akita Prefecture, Japan.

The wind power project is being developed by Oga Katagami Akita Offshore Green Energy, a consortium comprising JERA Co, J-POWER, Tohoku EPCO, and ITOCHU Corp. Financial details were not disclosed.

The order includes 21 V236-15.0 MW turbines, marking Vestas’ first firm order for its flagship turbine in the Asia Pacific region. It also represents the first firm order for a project under Japan’s Renewable Energy Sea Area Utilization Act.

The V236-15.0 MW turbines are built on proven technology and have secured over 6 GW of firm orders globally since their launch. A long-term service agreement is part of the order to ensure optimal performance.

Purvin Patel, President of Vestas Asia Pacific, expressed pride in partnering with the consortium for this landmark project, emphasizing the company’s commitment to clean energy and offshore wind development in the region.

Atsushi Yuihara, Representative Executive Officer of Oga Katagami Akita Offshore Green Energy, highlighted the project’s contribution to Japan’s carbon neutrality goals and the revitalization of the Akita region’s local economy.

The project site is located off the coast of Oga city, Katagami city, and Akita city in Akita Prefecture. Deliveries are expected to start in 2026, with commissioning planned for 2027 and operations scheduled to begin in June 2028.
