Vestas, a global leader in sustainable energy solutions, has announced a significant milestone with the reception of a 140 MW order to power the Halkirk II wind project, owned by Capital Power, a leading North American power producer. The project, located in Alberta, Canada, is set to harness the region’s abundant wind resources and contribute to Canada’s clean energy goals.

The order comprises 31 units of the V150-4.5 MW wind turbines, renowned for their cutting-edge technology and exceptional onshore wind energy production capabilities. Vestas’ involvement extends beyond the turbine supply and delivery, as the agreement includes commissioning services and a comprehensive 10-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service package. This comprehensive service agreement is meticulously designed to ensure the consistent and optimized performance of the wind turbines throughout their operational lifespan.

Laura Beane, President of Vestas North America, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Capital Power to expand the renewable energy portfolio in Canada. Beane highlighted the suitability of the V150-4.5 MW turbines for Alberta’s wind conditions and emphasized Vestas’ commitment to maintaining the projects at peak efficiency. The 4 MW platform has proven its capabilities in various wind environments, making it an ideal choice for sustainable energy projects like the Halkirk II wind farm.

In response to the partnership, Steve Owens, Senior Vice President of Construction and Engineering at Capital Power, conveyed the company’s excitement about working with Vestas once again for the Halkirk II Wind project. Owens emphasized the crucial role that this project plays in Capital Power’s strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045. The implementation of the advanced V150-4.5 MW wind turbines underscores Capital Power’s commitment to driving a sustainable future for both communities and the planet.

The delivery of the turbines is projected to commence in the second quarter of 2024, with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter of the same year. This timeline reflects the dedication of both Vestas and Capital Power to meeting their renewable energy goals promptly and efficiently.

As the global drive towards clean energy intensifies, partnerships like the one between Vestas and Capital Power exemplify the collaboration needed to propel the transition to a more sustainable energy landscape. The Halkirk II wind project stands as a beacon of progress, showcasing how renewable energy projects can contribute significantly to reducing carbon emissions and advancing the journey toward a greener future.
