U.K approves EON Rampion offshore wind farm project

The U.K has given nod to the EON SE to build an offshore wind farm of 700 megawatts, providing power for about 450,000 homes.

The Rampion offshore wind project will be built off the coast of Sussex. It will support more than 750 jobs and bring 2 billion pounds of investment, stated the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

Construction is expected to start next year and it should commence working in 2018 to 2019.

The decision underlines how the government’s policies have made the UK the best place in the world to invest in offshore wind.

Ed Davey, secretary, Energy and Climate Change, said, “We are driving investment in energy security, and with our plans we have pioneered in offshore wind energy. This project is essential for Sussex, providing green jobs as well as driving business opportunities in a sector with a clear roadmap for growth.”
