Suzlon has won a wind turbine supply contract with ReNew Power for a 90.3 megawatt project.

Under the terms of the contract, Suzlon is to install its 2.1 megawatt, S97 model, 90-meter wind turbine generators at Ellutla in Ananthpur district, Andhra Pradesh.

The project is expected to produce adequate power to supply 56,000 households and, in turn, reduce 0.195 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

According to a statement issued by Suzlon, the company has been witnessing strong inflow of orders in recent times and the latest in line has taken its capacity in the first quarter of financial year 2015-16 to more than 190 MW.

For ReNew Power alone, Suzlon has commissioned a 98.7 MW project and is constructing a 100.8 MW project in Rajasthan. It has also bagged a 90MW project in Madhya Pradesh.

ReNew Power has more than 1,000 MW of commissioned and under-construction clean energy projects in its portfolio.

Tulsi Tanti, the chairman of Suzlon Group has stated that the company was to focus on the Indian market this year considering that the government has set target for wind energy expansion at 60 gigawatt by 2022.

On average that would mean an addition of 5 GW each year over the next 7 years. It is more than double the current market size.
