RWE and the town of Bedburg are collaborating on their third joint wind project, Windpark Bedburg 3, featuring nine turbines with a total capacity of approximately 60 MW.

The total wind power operated jointly in Bedburg will reach 156 MW.

Construction begins in April 2025 with access roads and subsoil improvements; full operation expected in the second half of 2026.

The project is located on recultivated land at the Garzweiler open-cast mine, near existing wind farms Konigshovener Höhe and Bedburg A44n.

Seven turbines will have 7 MW capacity each, and two will have 5.7 MW, reflecting significant technical advancement in turbine efficiency.

RWE and Bedburg each own a 50 percent stake; local communities benefit from revenue sharing, with Bedburg receiving up to €250,000 annually and Jüchen also gaining a share.

RWE will pay 0.2 cents per kilowatt-hour produced to surrounding communities.

The wind farm will connect to RWE Power’s existing grid infrastructure at Garzweiler.

This initiative is part of Bedburg’s broader renewable energy transition on former mining land, including solar and agri-PV projects led by RWE.

RWE emphasizes long-term partnerships, regional benefits, and leveraging ideal site conditions for expanding renewable capacity.
