Gamesa to provide 75 turbines for various wind projects in Brazil

Gamesa has secured a supply order for 54 of its G114-2.0 MW turbines to various wind farms in União dos Ventos complex located at Rio Grande do Norte in north-eastern Brazil.

The 150 MW wind project is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.

In addition, 13 of its G97-2.0 MW turbines will be installed at the Papagaio and Coqueirinho wind farms.

Meanwhile, eight more of G97-2.0 MW turbines will be supplied to the Tamanduá Mirim 2 wind farms in the state of Bahia.

These projects will begin operation in the first half of 2016.

For Gamesa, addition of these 75 more wind turbines for various projects will make a cumulative total of 3,300 MW for the fiscal-year 2014.

Last month, Gamesa entered into another contract for the supply of 84 MW of wind turbines to the Iberdrola-Neoenergia consortium in Brazil.

Three wind farms will receive G114-2.0 MW turbines, 15 at the Santana 1 wind farm, 15 at the Calango 6 wind farm and 12 at the Santana 2 wind farm.

The new G114 2MW model turbines are suitable for high-wind and low-turbulence conditions seen in Brazil.

In another clean energy investment, CLP India has awarded 100 MW turnkey construction projects to Gamesa for wind farms in Madhya Pradesh and Chandigarh.

Gamesa will supply 50 new G97 2.0 MW turbines with extended hub height of 104m, modified according to Indian wind conditions.

In another development in India, Gamesa signed an agreement with Greenko, an independent power producer to develop 300 MW wind power in the country.

Recently, Gamesa secured supply contracts from Zamudio, the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica, enabling the company to enter into the Jamaican wind turbine market.

Brazil is fast moving to renewables like solar and wind to address the worsening power crisis.

In 2014, Brazil developed a plan to expand the use of wind energy over the next ten years as the worst drought in decades raised concerns over the stability of hydro power.
