Enel Green Power has won rights to sign 20-year energy supply contracts with Brazilian electricity distribution companies.
And Enel will supply power to the discoms from the 90-megawatt Cristalândia wind power project at Bahia State in northeastern Brazil.
The company is investing about 190 million US dollars in the construction of the plant, which is expected to be completed and commissioned in 2017.
The wind farm would generate more than 350 GWh a year and cut emission by more than 100,000 tons of carbon dioxide, a statement said.
Enel already manages about 260 MW of commissioned or under-construction wind power projects, a further 200MW of wind projects awarded in public tenders held in 2014, and more than 254 MW of solar photovoltaic projects.
Brazil recently held a public renewable energy auction LFA (Leilão de Fontes Alternativas) at which Enel won the right to supply power to a pool of Brazilian electricity distribution companies.
“The successful outcome of this tender brings us up to nearly 700 MW won in Brazilian wind power auctions since 2010,” Enel Green Power CEO Francesco Venturini said.
Enel currently has an installed capacity of approximately 9,600 MW from a mix of sources including wind, solar, hydropower, geothermal and biomass. Also, the company has roughly 740 plants operating in 15 countries.
