Tractebel Energia, a Brazilian power company and a unit of France’s GDF Suez, plans to start operations at the 97.2MW Santa Mônica wind complex in 2016, reports Recharge.
They are preparing to sell power from 600MW at approaching auctions this year.
Currently, Santa Mônica is under construction in the northeastern state of Ceará.
It is made up of the wind farms of 29.7MW Estrela, the 18.9MW Cacimbas, the 18.9MW Santa Mônica and the 29.7MW Ouro Verde.
Alstom will supply 36, ECO 122, 2.7MW turbines and the power generated will be sold in the non-regulated market. Total investment is estimated at R$460m ($185m).
The 600MW Santo Agostinho complex project, for which Tractebel paid R$54m for the rights in August, is already licensed and ready to participate in this year’s A-5 auction at the end of November, said, Manoel Zaroni, CEO.
In addition, the company has under pipeline for 626.7MW Campo Largo Complex in the state of Bahia, which is under development right now.
Tractebel is Brazil’s largest private power company with a total operating installed capacity of 7GW, of which 5 percent is renewables.
Tractebel posted net profits of R$538m in the third quarter of 2014, up 34 percent from the same period a year ago due to an increase of power sales.
