Recently, Suntech supplied 100 MW of its PV modules for two projects selected under Department of Energy’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program’s (REIPPPP) first bid round.

In addition, Suntech received the VDE Quality-Tested certification, which proves the quality of Suntech’s modules exceeding industry standards.

Eric Luo, CEO, Suntech, said, “Suntech is poised to expand the presence in the South African market. Given the country’s dedication to growing renewable energies, Suntech is exploring the potential of locating manufacturing, assembly and warehousing facilities as well as offering after-sales services in the market. This would enable Suntech to supply a greater volume of PV modules to meet growing demands and serve as a gateway to additional markets in the region.”

South Africa’s Department of Energy aims to achieve 3,725 MW of renewable energy generation by 2030.

REIPPPP is providing a chance to other power producers to bid on renewable energy projects and this occurs in five bidding rounds. The fourth round tender will be announced later this year.

Having an ability of increased presence and capacity to provide South African developers with quality modules, the company will support projects from the REIPPPP third-bid submission onwards, said Ryan Virahsawmy, country head, Suntech, South Africa.

Suntech is pursuing a new business strategy to be globally recognized as integrated clean energy manufacturer as well as provider.

Besides, Suntech was acquired by Shunfeng Photovoltaics, based in Hong-Kong to provide one-stop solution to the Shunfeng group of companies with capabilities in design, engineering, manufacturing, construction, finance, insurance, operation and maintenance, energy storage, solar products and applications.
