Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer Trina Solar is supplying close to 33,000 modules for the installation of a project in central Panama.

The project with a capacity of 9.9MWp, coming up in Cocle province, is being jointly developed by UK-based developer Solarcentury and its local partner Hybrytec.

The companies have not disclosed the timelines and details of funding connected with the project.

The project will be owned by ECOSolar, a Latin American solar investment company.

“Trina Solar was an obvious choice for Solarcentury to expand to new countries. Trina Solar was able to support the tight timelines required to fulfil the project and provided regular communication and support from its UK team,” Matthew Boulton, the COO of Solarcentury, said.

The COO and president of module business unit of Trina Solar, Zhiguo Zhu, said the company has expanded its presence in Latin America over the past few years.

Zhiguo said the climate of the region was suitable for solar photovoltaic installations. “It has abundant space and an increasing demand for electricity. The solar farm will diversify the energy mix and drive an efficient and clean supply of energy,” he added.

Trina Solar has stated that the photovoltaic power plant would be one of the largest grid-connected installations in Panama and will sell the electricity it generates to the local spot market.
